Watch lovers and enthusiasts have a new address awaiting them. No, this is not a new luxury boutique for Piaget or TAG Heuer or Rolex. Rather, it is a travel destination that is sure to take your breath away. If you are traveling to Italy, consider stepping into this exquisitely luxurious time capsule named Hotel L’Orologio. It may not transport you back in time, but this luxury property in Florence will leave you astounded by the brilliance with which this hotel has been built around the theme of fine watch-making.
Designed by architect Marianna Gagliardi, Hotel L’Orologio is a prime example of how beautifully even small details can lend themselves to a larger theme. In keeping with the theme of fine watch-making, Gagliardi introduced various details small and large. From the library to the lobby to the rooms, there are clocks and watches of various kinds adorning the walls. In addition, there are artworks – both paintings and photographs – with watches and clocks as the theme. There are doorknobs that are designed like pendulums. Even the faucets boast of clockwork detailing.
The materials used include leather, parchment, bronze and wood. The earthy colors and aromas of tobacco heighten the sensory appeal. Moreover, each floor of the luxury hotel is dedicated to a watch brand – with Rolex, Vacheron-Constantin and Patek Philippe being the chosen ones.
Hotel L’Orologio is part of the Whythebest hotel line in Italy. The brand’s founder, Sandro Fratini, is known for his love of luxury watches. He owns 2,000 watches. The hotel is a testament to this.
