Make DIY painted upholstery with Hyphen Interiors
The New York metro area is a fertile field for Craigslist shopping. But what can you do if the upholstery piece you buy isn’t exactly the color you like? You could have it recovered for hundreds of dollars. Or you could try the technique of painting the upholstery and spend only a few dollars trying.
Kristy Swain, the designer behind Hyphen Interiors, shows you how to brighten or change the color of your upholstery using latex paint and fabric medium.

Swain found a blue chair on Craigslist but she wanted a deeper teal shade for the fabric.
She dampened the fabric with a spray bottle of water, then painted the fabric with a mix of watered-down latex paint and fabric medium, applying two coats. She also painted the dark wood legs of the chair a glossy white and added nailhead trim to the arms.
